And he gave some as apostles, others as prophets, others as evangelists,
others as pastors and teachers, to equip the holy ones for the work of ministry,
for building up the body of Christ, until we all attain to the unity of faith
and knowledge of the Son of God, to mature manhood, to the extent of the full stature of Christ
~ Ephesians 4:11-13

A Biblical Walk Through the Mass
Thursdays | September 23 – October 21
Throughout the year, Saint Patrick Parish will be offering an opportunity to reveal, revisit, and rejuvenate your Catholic Faith in a program called “Revived”. This year there will be smaller, shorter sessions focused on a topic of the groups choosing. Ending last year, the team asked, What would you like to learn more about. The resounding answers was, We want to learn more about the Mass. So the team chose, Ascension’s 5 week Study: A Biblical Walk Through the Mass. This first program is a study where there is weekly readings prior to class and discussion time in addition to a 30 minute video focused on the weekly topics during the session/class.
These sessions will be in person and Zoom. As the studies are discussion based, we hope the Zoom participants will be visible and participate. The classes will not be recorded nor posted online after.
The Mass is nothing short of amazing. Through it, we encounter God in the most intimate way possible as we hear him speak to us in the Liturgy of the Word and as we receive him Body and Blood, Soul and Divinity in the Holy Eucharist. The words, the gestures, and the rituals of the Mass are rich in meaning. Everything we say and do in the Liturgy is steeped in biblical language. A Biblical Walk Through the Mass explores the extraordinary biblical roots of the Liturgy and reveals what it all means and why it all matters. This fascinating tour of the Mass will renew your faith and deepen your love for and devotion to the Holy Eucharist.
“Dr. Sri’s best-selling study program, A Biblical Walk Through the Mass, has been a blessing for thousands over the past decade. … We need to recommit ourselves to the central act of our faith with passion and joy. This marvelously written aid will help us join ourselves to the Lord as he offers himself to the Father in the Sacrifice of the Mass. “

Books on Tap
Tuesdays | Begins September 21
7:00 – 8:30 PM
Currently @ Roger Bruvold’s Home
Books on Tap is a faith based book club in which the group reads and discusses faith based books at a local pub over beer, wine, or non-alcoholic beverages. Depending on the length of the book, the group meets from 4 – 7 weeks discussing each book. Each week’s reading is typically around 40 pages, so nothing too overwhelming in one week. The meetings are very casual; come when you can, read what you have time to. Interested in joining, email Roger at the below email address to get on the mailing list for the current book, pages to read, and questions to ponder. All are welcome!
The current book: The Diary of a Country Priest By George Bernanos
“In this classic Catholic novel, Bernanos movingly recounts the life of a young French country priest who grows to understand his provincial parish while learning spiritual humility himself. Awarded the Grand Prix for Literature by the Academie Française, The Diary of a Country Priest was adapted into an acclaimed film by Robert Bresson.” | Amazon Description
“This is a good book to revisit through the years. I enjoy that I can come back to its familiarity to remember the simplicity of this life. It is a good novel to keep Catholics grounded and remember the natural simplicity that life can offer, that can fill the soul. It’s a tough book to get into, but give it 50 pages and you’ll be in. I’ll keep this on my shelf with my growing “Catholic Novel” collection for many years.” | Amazon Review
“This book is about the search for hope, a search that involves every living human being. It deserves a second reading, slower than the first, when one is older and personally more familiar with the material, especially that in the climactic scene of Chapter 5. Bernanos is often compared to Dostoevsky, but he is much closer to Camus. One cannot read about this country priest, especially when he speaks of his passion for personal journal writing, without realizing that this is Bernanos himself describing his struggles and passions.” | Amazon Review
