Grace and Generosity: Achieving Our Capital Campaign Goals

Pastor's Weekly Message

Do you remember where you were and what you were doing in March of 2020? Most of us remember it, for it was when many things, including our churches and schools, shut down because of the outbreak of covid. It was also the kickoff for our most recent capital campaign. The kickoff weekend was scheduled for the weekend of March 20-21, but on the Wednesday before the weekend, we learned that we would not be able to allow people to attend Mass.

At this point, it was tempting to postpone the capital campaign, but we decided to continue. We had no idea what was in store for the coming weeks and months, but we relied on the grace of God.

To say our campaign was successful is an understatement. During this difficult period of history, we raised more money than our goal. As we were able to begin our projects, we completed several for less money than we estimated. Collecting more than our goal allowed us to do a few extra things, most notably buying a second condo unit for Father Dan, our associate pastor.

We have now wrapped up this campaign. We collected a total of $2,462,014, or 103.9% of our goal. Our expenses for the projects have totaled $2,386,685. This leaves us an excess of $75,329. We have one project to complete: upgrading the security at our school and church. We are awaiting word on a security grant for which we applied. If we receive the grant, it will cover our upgrade costs. We will then be able to add the extra cash to the maintenance account we started with our capital campaign. If we don’t receive the grant we will use the balance for security upgrades.

Thanks to our capital campaign cabinet, which provided leadership during the campaign, Hal Johnson and Associates, which provided professional expertise, Barb Kaiser, who handled the bookkeeping, and especially all who supported the campaign financially and prayerfully.
