Jesus’ departing words to his disciples were, “Go and make disciples of all the nations” (Mt. 28:19). Our desire at Saint Patrick Parish is to heed this great commission of Jesus. We want these words to be front and center in our minds and on our hearts. Therefore, we are renaming what has been branded as “Faith Formation” to “Youth and Family Discipleship”.

Read on about the great adventure that awaits you as you join us in living to Jesus’ final words to his friends. We are excited to share with you what our programming for kids and families will look like this fall. Once you have read through the new programs and opportunities, come back here to register online.

Hear, O Israel! The LORD is our God, the LORD alone!
Therefore, you shall love the LORD, your God, with your whole heart, and with your whole being, and with your whole strength.
Take to heart these words which I command you today.
Keep repeating them to your children. Recite them when you are at home and when you are away, when you lie down and when you get up.
Bind them on your arm as a sign and let them be as a pendant on your forehead.
Write them on the doorposts of your houses and on your gates.

~ Deuteronomy 6: 4-9

Family Discipleship

Laura Hinz  |

Family Formation
Ages 3 yrs – 8th Grade

Once a Month
Sundays | 9:30 – 10:30 AM
or Wednesdays | 6:00 – 7:15 PM
November and December sessions are Zoom Meetings only

Welcome to Family Formation! The foundation is really about strengthening your faith – as parents. When parents’ faith is strengthened, the faith in kids naturally follows. So rather than looking at it as you teaching your kids- see it as we are guiding you to become stronger disciples. As disciples you then go to your family and assist in making them disciples.

Our program, Family Formation will replace the traditional Wednesday night programs we have had for kids ages preschool through eighth grade. We are utilizing the Family Formation curriculum produced by the Church of Saint Paul in Ham Lake, Minnesota, and used there for over thirty years. This curriculum begins with a group gathering once per month. We will give you the option of meeting on Sunday morning from 9:30 to 10:30 (between the two Sunday morning Masses) or Wednesday Evening from 6:00 to 7:15. Parents meet separately. Kids are grouped- PreK-K, grades 1-3, 4-5, 6-8. On Sundays you are encouraged to either go to Mass before or after. On Wednesday we will conclude with a prayer service with parents and kids together.

Of course, we will practice safe distancing and adhere to guidelines prescribed to keep everyone safe. For families who prefer, the Wednesday evening parent session will be Live Streamed so you can watch from home. It will be available on Facebook and our website so it can be viewed at a more convenient time.

At the group session, you will receive a packet of material to use as a family the following three weeks of the month. The material is produced for a family to work on together- even if you have children of different ages. Generally, if you have younger children, you can expect the material to take one hour to complete. For older kids there will be about one and half hours’ worth of material. Middle schoolers will receive some additional materials they can work on by themselves. If you choose to not participate in the group session we will mail the monthly packet to you or you can pick them up at church at your convenience.

We believe that in the midst of this pandemic, this model will better serve your needs and help us to keep everyone safe. This program will require fewer catechists, which we believe will be harder to recruit this year. If at some point we are forced to close down, the program can easily continue with a combination of the family packets and virtual presentations. But more important we are excited to work with you as parents in helping your grow in your faith, thus helping your family become stronger disciples.

The Journey

High School Faith Formation is a two and a half year process that allows for the comprehensive exposition of the faith while remaining anchored in spiritual formation. The process leads to the preparation for and the celebration of Confirmation at the beginning of the students Junior year.

“The Journey” is our Confirmation Program at Saint Patrick Parish. We have made changes to the program the past few years as we seek to establish a program that meets Diocesan requirements and most importantly, serve our youth well. No more sitting in classes, now we will be joining together and actively learning about our faith. As a part of The Journey you will be given a Companion. Companions are adults from our parish who will help you stay connected with our parish, remind you of events that may interest you, share with you videos and other resources that will help you learn about our faith, and walk with you in this journey towards confirmation. Companions are there as a resource to answer your questions or guide you to find an answer.

There are three pillars that make up The Journey: Mass, Service, and Retreat.

Wednesday Night Live

Wednesdays  |  Kick-off  November 4
Small Group Nights  | 9th grade from 7:00-8:00 pm  ~ 10th grade from 8:10-9:10 pm
Large Group Nights  |  7:00 – 8:45 PM
@ Saint Patrick Church

Our faith formation program is called WEDNESDAY NIGHT LIVE (WNL). Join us for our large group meetings as we experience the Sacraments, dig deeper into our Catholic faith, and grow as Christians through active faith practice. You will hear from speakers, experience Eucharistic Adoration, and share your faith through music ministry. There is plenty of community, fun, and food to go around for every youth who is seeking a vibrant community to celebrate our faith!

In addition to large group formation, every youth is placed into their own small group. The small groups are broken down into men and woman groups. They are led by an adult whose mission is to evangelize and help our youth realize they are known, cared for and loved by Christ and His church. They meet every other week and study and discuss topics like Who Is God, Your Vocation, Human Sexuality, and many more. You can contact H Dorian if you would like to learn more, join a small group, or form a group of your own as a new Companion.

Attend Mass

The most significant part of the Journey is attending Mass regularly on Sunday’s (or Saturday nights) and Holy Days of Obligation. Now, What does that mean for our program? Minimally it should be every other week or twice a month. How will we know if you are attending? Your Sponsor and Parish Companion for the Journey will ask from time to time. If attending Sunday Mass is not a part of your life, your companion will guide you to find the alternative opportunities that may lead you to eventually understanding the Mass better, enjoying it more, and eventually making it more a part of your life. Do not worry if it is not a part of your life now – it is a Journey!

The second stop on the Journey is service. Here there are three options. The first option is to participate in a week long mission trip through Saint Patrick Parish. Each summer Saint Patrick Parish sponsors a trip to some place in the United States through an organization called Catholic Heart. Along with doing service work there is daily Mass, Eucharistic Adoration, and evening programs. The second option is to be a part of a Saint Patrick Service team. Teams work in the summer providing help with Vacation Bible School, Summer Stretch, Totus Tuus or Extreme Faith Camp as a High School Leader. The third option is to complete three community/church service experiences. We encourage you to volunteer in a variety of capacities, in your own St Patrick Church, in the wider community of Hudson and/or in the Cities, state, world.

Attend a Retreat

One of the most significant and often life changing stops on “The Journey” is a retreat. We will provide you with information regarding several great options that include our own St Patrick Confirmation Boot Camp, NET Ministries, Steubenville Conferences, and other Catholic Retreats offered in the area.

Set the World on Fire

Mondays  | Starting in January
7th and 8th Grade Ladies

BLAZE is coming soon to Saint Patrick Parish! The first of twenty weekly lessons will start in January.  BLAZE is the Walking with Purpose ministry for middle-school-aged girls. The mission of BLAZE is to use Scripture to speak truth into the hearts of young girls who are bombarded by lies about their true worth and beauty.  Girls in their tween/teen years are filled with questions. They have doubts, they desire clarification, and they want to share their thoughts in a space that will allow them to make their relationship with God personal and meaningful.

Each week, participants will be led through an ice breaker activity and a short lesson based on a lie found in the world and a truth found in Scripture. The girls will also leave with a small take-home gift which corresponds with the lesson.

Edge is a Catholic middle school youth ministry program. It provides a safe and fun place for youth to find solid Catholic community, to get answers to their questions about faith, and, most importantly, to experience Jesus in a profound and personal way.

Now more than ever middle school youth need the truth and love of Jesus Christ to guide their lives and they need the faith presented in a way that makes sense to them and is relevant to their lives. Edge accomplishes this and builds a foundation of faith that will guide the youth as they face many difficulties and help them as they begin to make decisions that affect the rest of their teen years.

As middle school youth wade through all the difficulties of this time of life, they have real questions and need real answers. If parish leaders ignore the unique challenges of their middle school youth, they risk losing them forever.

All middle school youth (grades 6 – 8) are invited to join us on Wednesday nights from 5:00 – 6:30 pm in the social hall of the church.

Catechesis of the Good Shepherd
3 year old – 2nd Grade

Wednesdays  |  On hold until January 13, 2021
4:30 pm – 6:00 pm or 6:15 pm – 7:30 pm
@ Saint Patrick School

Catechesis of the Good Shepherd is a hands-on, experiential method of learning that offers the essentials of our Catholic faith in a way that engages and delights children through presentations rooted in liturgy and scripture. Each room has at least one adult who has received extensive catechist training in this method. Materials on the life of Christ and his teachings help make the mystery of God concrete for the child. Selected parables serve as keys to discover the mystery of the kingdom of God and help nurture the child’s natural sense of wonder.

Preparation for First Reconciliation and First Communion takes place within the context of our Children’s Faith Formation program with additional workshops and activities.

1st Sacraments

At Saint Patrick Parish, we use a three pillar approach for First Reconciliation and First Communion during a 2 year preparation process that begins in first grade. First Reconciliation and First Communion are typically celebrated during second grade.

Family Preparation
All First Reconciliation and First Communion students will receive very special materials to use at home as part of their preparation process. The home component is a crucial element involving the parents. Living and modeling the faith on a daily basis and attending mass contribute to growing in faith and preparing for sacraments. Parents and students will come together for retreats, catechesis, rehearsals, and reflections during Parent/Students sessions throughout the year.

Remote Preparation
Remote Preparation is Catholic religious instruction. Your child will receive this as a student enrolled at Saint Patrick School, Faith Formation, or Family Faith Formation.

Immediate Preparation
Immediate Preparation is First Reconciliation and First Communion religious instruction. Your child will receive some sacrament specific catechesis during class at Saint Patrick School, Faith Formation or Family Faith Formation.
