Hear, O Israel! The LORD is our God, the LORD alone!
Therefore, you shall love the LORD, your God, with your whole heart, and with your whole being, and with your whole strength.
Take to heart these words which I command you today.
Keep repeating them to your children. Recite them when you are at home and when you are away, when you lie down and when you get up.
Bind them on your arm as a sign and let them be as a pendant on your forehead.
Write them on the doorposts of your houses and on your gates.

~ Deuteronomy 6: 4-9

Children’s Discipleship

Emily Todd  |

St. Patrick Parish is happy to offer two different programs for the children of our parish.

  • Family Formation typically meets the first Sunday of the month at 9am. At those meetings, you will receive a packet which you will complete as a family the following 3 weeks of the month at home.
  • Catechesis of the Good Shepherd (CGS) uses a Montessori approach to learn the good news of our faith. Classes held Tuesdays and Wednesdays, 3-4 times a month.

Family Formation
Ages 3 yrs (by September 1) – 5th Grade

One Sunday a Month
October – May | 9:00 – 10:30 AM
Saint Patrick Church
Sunday, May 7 | Next Family Formation Large Group

Welcome to Family Formation! The foundation is really about strengthening your faith – as parents. When parents’ faith is strengthened, the faith in kids naturally follows. So rather than looking at it as you are teaching your kids- see it as we are guiding you to become stronger disciples. As disciples you then go to your family and assist in making them disciples.

We are utilizing the Family Formation curriculum produced by the Church of Saint Paul in Ham Lake, Minnesota, and used there for over thirty years. This curriculum begins with an in-person group gathering once per month. Meetings are on Sunday morning from 9:00 to 10:30. Parents meet separately.

At the group session, you will receive a packet of materials to use as a family the following three weeks of the month. The material is produced for a family to work on together- even if you have children of different ages. If you have a middle schooler, you are welcome to request extra materials for them to participate with the family, and we strongly encourage this even though your middle schooler participates in our Middle School Program, Edge.

We are excited to work with you as parents in helping you grow in your faith, thus helping your family become stronger disciples.

Cost |  $70  (flat rate, 1 or more children)

Catechesis of the Good Shepherd is a hands-on, experiential method of learning that offers the essentials of our Catholic faith in a way that engages and delights children through presentations rooted in liturgy and scripture. In a space especially prepared for the child, materials on the life of Christ and his teachings help the child discover the mystery of the kingdom of God and help nurture the child’s natural sense of wonder to know and love Jesus, the Good Shepherd.

1st Sacraments

Preparation for First Reconciliation and First Holy Communion is a two-year process that begins in 1st grade.

Sacraments are not isolated events. They are linked to each other, Christ, and His Church, thus children must be formed in their faith prior to and while preparing for sacraments as well as long after. First Reconciliation and First Communion are typically celebrated during second grade. Saint Patrick is here to assist you and your child as he/she prepares for the sacraments of Reconciliation and Eucharist.

Cost | $50 per child

EDGE Middle School Discipleship

Wednesdays  |   5:45 – 7:15 PM
Saint Patrick Church
Began September 21

Edge is a Catholic middle school youth ministry program. It provides a safe and fun place for youth to find solid Catholic community, to get answers to their questions about faith, and, most importantly, to experience Jesus in a profound and personal way.

Now more than ever middle school youth need the truth and love of Jesus Christ to guide their lives and they need the faith presented in a way that makes sense to them and is relevant to their lives. Edge accomplishes this and builds a foundation of faith that will guide the youth as they face many difficulties and help them as they begin to make decisions that affect the rest of their teen years.

As middle school youth wade through all the difficulties of this time of life, they have real questions and need real answers. If parish leaders ignore the unique challenges of their middle school youth, they risk losing them forever.

All middle school youth (grades 6 – 8) are invited to join us on Wednesday nights from 5:45 – 7:15 pm in the social hall of the church.

Cost | $ 70 per child

High School Discipleship

Wednesdays
7:45 – 9:00 PM
Saint Patrick Church

High School Discipleship began October 12

High School Youth Discipleship forms our high school youth in the faith to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation and continue on as life-long disciples of Jesus Christ.

Every high school youth is placed into their own small group. The small groups are broken down into men and woman groups and are led by an adult whose mission is to evangelize and help our youth realize they are known, cared for, and loved by Christ and His church. They meet three times a month and discuss topics like Who Is GodYour VocationHuman Sexuality, and many more.

On the first Wednesday of every month, all high school youth gather as a large group to experience intentional fellowship, formation, and prayer as a larger community.

As part of High School Youth Discipleship, youth have the opportunity to grow in service. We offer several service opportunities such as our summer mission trip through Catholic Heart Workcamp, serving as a leader at Extreme Faith Camp, volunteering with Vacation Bible School or Totus Tuus, or participating in our Summer Stretch program. We encourage youth to volunteer in a variety of capacities, in your own Saint Patrick Church, in the wider community of Hudson and/or in the Cities, state, world.
